“Ben The Movie” News
For the last few months, we’ve been working with film production and marketing professionals to tell Ben’s incredible story, from early days where no one believed that he would ever walk, talk and go to school up to his current success with university classes. This really cool project I’m calling “Ben The Movie”. Sign up to receive regular updates as this short film is developed, shot, and produced.
It’s free! It’s easy to do! It’s something we really need to share with the world. There are so many people we can help and support. So tell everyone. Share the link. Let’s do this!!

A few days into Ben’s fragile life, we were told he might never walk, talk, or go to school. We were given only of a bleak future for him and then left on our own to deal with all of his problems. I thought my life was over.
“Third Time Lucky: How Ben shows us the way” is the story of Ben’s amazing first five years and our determination to unleash the smart, social, loving boy who was trapped deep inside a spastic body. It is a story of hope and determination as much as it is of strife and exhaustion.

“Third Time Lucky is raw emotion. It will make you laugh and make you cry. An honest, compelling, sometimes painful, but mostly uplifting story that reflects the shared reality of families all over the world.” Connie Laurin-Bowie, Executive Director, Inclusion International “Their story illuminates how challenging, exhausting, and complicated life can become, but it is also extremely inspiring. The most valuable contribution for me was reading Michael’s reflections on his many interactions with health professionals – positive and negative. His candid responses to a range of manners, words, actions, or inactions are quite insightful and provide much food for thought.” Debbie Field, Occupational Therapist, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children
This is my personal blog about the challenges that impact Ben’s life (who has complex disabilities), our family’s life, and the lives of millions around the world who suffer from a disability including their families. My mission is to provide inspiration and optimism to those who have been told, “there’s nothing anyone can do to help you” (because that’s not true), as well as support and coach them in their discovery of the person they were meant to be.
My recently released book, Third Time Lucky: How Ben shows us the way, takes you inside my world to give you a rare glimpse of the enormous weight and stress that we carried with us every day, having been left on our own to deal with all of Ben’s problems. As our journey unfolded, Ben demonstrated his ability to teach all of us about life and about being human.
